Steve Basson is TurfManzi Irrigation’s New Business Developer, specialising in irrigation audits using Mappin. He brings more than 20 years of golf-industry experience to irrigation-system assessment, infrastructure mapping, practical upgrade planning and long-term client support.

Before joining TMI in 2025, Steve held senior management roles at established golf facilities in Southern Africa. His operational background helps him assess irrigation priorities from the perspectives of club management, course operations, maintenance teams and golfers.

Current work at TMI

Steve works with golf-course managers, superintendents and maintenance teams to audit and document existing irrigation systems using Mappin. His work includes asset identification, photographic and location-based records, pump-station and control-system assessment, sprinkler and valve condition reviews, automation assessment, client reporting and practical upgrade recommendations. His practical exposure includes Hunter, Rain Bird and Toro golf-irrigation equipment, conventional field controllers, valve-in-head systems, solenoid valve systems, decoder-based control and older hydraulic and wired infrastructure.

Previous golf-club management

Mossel Bay Golf Club

Steve served as General Manager of this high-volume South African facility, which recorded approximately 54,000 rounds annually.

Windhoek Golf and Country Club

He spent approximately eight years in senior club management in Namibia, covering operations, financial management, membership, events, staffing and facility management. Steve began his professional golf-industry career through an apprenticeship in 2000 and also played tournament golf.
